With its spectacular Rocky Mountain and prairie landscapes, Wyoming is a glorious destination for an RV vacation. It’s famously the least-populated state, making Wyoming an ideal place to get away from it all on an RV trip. Fortunately, getting away from it all doesn’t mean going without all the essential services and amenities you need, including those unpleasant-yet-necessary dump stations.
Wyoming has few big cities, but plenty of RV campgrounds with dump stations are available to overnight guests and day-use visitors, too. Adding to the options for RV dump stations in Wyoming are travel plazas, truck stops, rest areas, and municipal facilities. Many are open only in summer, so off-season visitors should do plenty of research before hitting the road.
National Park Dump Stations in Wyoming
Wyoming’s two national parks are its major tourist destinations, and both have numerous campgrounds with dump stations available to overnight campers as well as day-use visitors. There is no additional fee to use these dump stations, but park entrance fees and campsite fees apply.- Four of Grand Teton National Park’s seven campgrounds offer dump stations. These are Gros Ventre, Signal Mountain, and Colter Bay campgrounds, along with Colter Bay RV Park, where all the campsites have full hookups.
- Yellowstone National Park has 12 campgrounds, five of which have seasonal dump stations. These are at Grant Village, Bridge Bay, Canyon and Madison campgrounds, and Fishing Bridge RV Park, which has full hookups at its 310 RV-only campsites.
- Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area offers seasonal dump stations at Horseshoe Bend Campground, Afterbay Campground, and Grapevine Campground.
Wyoming State Park Dump Stations
Nine of Wyoming’s state parks and historic sites have RV dump stations. Unless noted, there are no additional fees to use the dump stations, but day-use and campsite fees do apply. RVers can use dump stations at the following state parks:- Bear River State Park: A dump station at the visitor center is open 24 hours a day from April through mid-November, weather permitting.
- Boysen State Park: The dump station at the park headquarters is open April through October.
- Buffalo Bill State Park: Two dump stations are available at the park’s Lake Shore and North Fork campgrounds from May through September.
- Glendo State Park: A year-round dump station is available opposite the park headquarters.
- Guernsey State Park: The dump station near the main entrance is open from mid-April to mid-October.
- Independence Rock Historic Site: The highway department provides a dump station here.
- Keyhole State Park: A 24-hour dump station at the main entrance is open May through September.
- Seminoe State Park: The dump station is in the North Red Hills Camping Area.
- Wyoming Territorial Prison: Find a 24-hour dump station at the south end of the parking lot, open from May through October for a $10 fee.
BLM Campgrounds and Dump Stations in Wyoming
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) runs several campgrounds and two dedicated RV dump stations in Wyoming on public lands. The Warren Bridge Campground, 20 miles northwest of Pinedale on Highway 191, has an RV dump station available to visitors and campers. The Burgess RV Dump Station in Bighorn National Forest is open in the summer only. It is located on the Bighorn Scenic Byway, not far from the town of Dayton. The Leigh Creek RV Dump Station off the Cloud Peak Skyway near Buffalo is also open during summer only. It is also in Bighorn National Forest.Private RV Parks in Wyoming
There are close to 300 campgrounds and RV parks in Wyoming, mostly concentrated around the state’s major tourist attractions, including its national parks, Devils Tower National Monument, and scenic byways. Private RV campgrounds and resorts across Wyoming vary considerably in the amenities they offer, but an on-site dump station is a typical feature. The dump station is nearly always free for registered overnight guests. Some properties will allow non-guests to use their dump stations for a small fee. Policies vary, so always call ahead.Travel Plazas and Truck Stops
Travel plazas and truck stops are very reliable providers of dump stations in Wyoming, although their locations are limited to major highways. A major bonus of using dump stations at travel plazas and truck stops is the convenience of refueling and stocking up on other supplies, such as propane and groceries, at the same time. Some names to look for on the road in Wyoming include Pilot Flying J, a comprehensive nationwide travel plaza brand with 10 locations in the state, and Maverik, a chain of truck stops across the West that was founded in Wyoming. Its Casper, Laramie, and Green River locations have RV dump stations. A few more comprehensive travel plazas and truck stops with RV dump stations in Wyoming include the Little America Hotel off I-80, the Torrington Travel Terminal and Love’s Travel Stop in Wamsutter.Rest Areas and Information Centers
The Wyoming Department of Transportation operates 37 rest areas and information centers along highways, several of which offer RV dump stations. They include:- Cheyenne Information Center off I-25, south of Cheyenne
- Independence Rock Rest Area off WYO 220, 52 miles southwest of Casper
- Dwyer Junction Rest Area off I-25, north of Wheatland
- Sheridan Information Center off I-90 in Sheridan
